After the announcement of the newly formed NYSSCOGS/NYS Girls High School Soccer of Fame and its INAUGURAL CLASS, hosting the 1st ever induction ceremony and hosting a HS Tournament including 28 of the top teams in the state, everyone involved is preparing for another amazing class, ceremony and tournament (which now includes 60 teams ).
Our 5th Inductee Class! “Think back 5 years ago, think of where you’re at today, think ahead 5 years and what you want to accomplish. Be unstoppable.” – Dwayne Johnson.
Indeed, so much accomplished, and so much more to be accomplished. The Class of 2021 certainly had taken advantage of every opportunity that came their way both on and off the pitch. The class of 2021 includes some of NYS Top Coaches/Contributors and Players. Such coaches and contributors have laid the foundation to the greatness of today’s Girls High School Soccer in New York. Some of whom helped define our sport, coach, recruit and promote some of our COUNTRY’s best players, not to mention winning numerous titles, individual honors, state player of year awards, and so much more!
These days we see a lot of players, friends, and families “twinning”. However, many have not done it as well as two of our 2021 inductees and twins Margaret Tietjen-Rodriguez and Jennifer Tietjen-Prozzo. The only time they were inseparable was when they were drafted by two different teams of the WPSL. Otherwise, a deadly tandem that led them both to Co-NYS POY awards in 1994 while being named CO-NYS Class A Champs playing for Huntington while both earning All-America and continuing their play together at UCONN as two of the Huskies all time greats and now Margaret the Head Coach at Uconn and Jennifer Asst. Coach at Central Connecticut State. Then we have Coach/Contributor Steve Weber (Elmira Notre Dame HS, Class C, 1986-2019) who has a career record of 496-139-26 career record (3rd in NYS history), 3 times NYS Coach of the Year with a State Title too! Then there is High School All-America Brittany (Taylor) Kolmel, (Washingtonville HS, forward, Class A, Class of 2005) who is the 3rd player in the NWSL to reach 100 caps in the league, playing full games in each of her first 100 caps, totaling 9090 minutes in these appearances as well as Caps with the full Senior Women’s National Team and 2013-NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) Best XI, 2010-WPS (Women’s Professional Soccer) and current Head Coach at Marist. Holly Pedley-Germaine from Liverpool HS class of 1994 who went onto to college at ARMY to become the school’s only All-America, League POY and All-Region three times. These are just some detailed examples of the greatness of NYS Girls High School Soccer and those who involved in this amazing sport and community.
We are extremely excited once again to celebrate our amazing New York State High School Girls Soccer Hall of Fame inductees and former student-athlete GREATS.
